Animal’s body consists of diverse cell types that are neatly organized to form functional organs. My lab deciphers how dynamic molecular systems establish precise spatial and temporal controls at nanometer scales to fulfill cell-type specific functionalities.

Specifically, we undertake a quantitative analysis of gene regulatory mechanisms at the single-cell, single-molecule level to discover how stereotypical gene control during normal development as well as altered states in diseases emerge from dynamic molecular interactions and structural changes in the nucleus. As part of 4DCP, we aim to decode genome organization mechanisms at the tissue scale by next generation EM and light microcopy techniques. In collaboration with other labs on campus, we also aim to devise optical image strategies to study structure-function relationships underpinning membrane excitability and cell-to-cell communication in the brain.
